Winter Hair Care Tips from Salon Hether’s

Winter is here, and while we love cozy sweaters and hot drinks, our hair? Not so much. The cold air outside, combined with indoor heating, can leave hair feeling dry, brittle, and lifeless. At Salon Hether’s, we know how frustrating it can be to manage your hair during the colder months. That’s why we’ve put together our favorite tips to help you protect your locks and keep them looking beautiful all season long.

Moisturize Like You Mean It

Winter’s cold air strips away moisture, leaving hair feeling dry and frazzled. Now’s the time to switch to a more hydrating shampoo and conditioner. If you’re already noticing dry ends or dullness, we recommend incorporating a rich, deep-conditioning mask once a week. When your hair feels soft and hydrated, it’s easier to style, and you’ll notice it looks shinier and healthier. Don’t know which products are right for you? Our stylists at Salon Hether’s can help you find the perfect match!

We highly recommend Oribe’s Moisture & Control Deep Treatment Masque, the ultimate moisturizing masque, with coconut and almond oils.

Turn Down the Heat

We know, winter mornings and blow-drying just go together. But heat styling in the winter can cause even more dryness. Try to air-dry your hair when possible, or if you need to use heat tools, always apply a heat protectant. At the salon, we love talking with clients about heat-free styling techniques that work with their natural texture—whether that’s a chic updo or a soft braid overnight to create natural waves.

If you need to blow-dry, use R+Co’s Chainmail Thermal Protection Styling Spray to shield your strands, featuring 450°F heat protection. This offers flexible hold and leaves hair feeling soft and gleaming with silky shine.

Hats are Cute, but Tricky

Nothing says winter like a stylish hat, but beware—wool and cotton can create friction and cause breakage. If you can, choose hats with a silk or satin lining to prevent static and frizz. A little insider tip: Carry a small bottle of smoothing serum or leave-in conditioner in your bag to tame any flyaways once you’re indoors.

Use Goldwell’s Intensive Conditioning Serum to deeply smoothes and softens hair for instant taming and frizz control in seconds.

Get Regular Trims

Even though you might not be thinking about haircuts during the winter, trimming off those dry, split ends is essential. Cold air and indoor heat can make hair more fragile, so scheduling a regular trim will keep your ends looking fresh and your overall style in shape. At Salon Hether’s, we always recommend our clients come in every 6-8 weeks for a quick trim to maintain healthy, strong hair.

Hydrate From the Inside

It’s easy to forget that our diet and hydration play a big role in hair health. Drinking plenty of water and eating foods rich in vitamins and healthy fats—like salmon, avocado, and nuts—can help keep your hair nourished from the inside out. Think of it as self-care for your hair!

Avocado is a great source of biotin, and adding this B-complex vitamin back into the diet may help hair to grow more healthily.

At Salon Hether’s, we’re here to make sure your hair not only survives but thrives this winter. Whether it’s helping you choose the right products, offering styling advice, or giving you a much-needed trim, we’ve got you covered. Don’t wait until spring to pamper your hair—book an appointment today and let’s keep those locks looking gorgeous, even when it’s freezing outside!

Keep your hair beautiful all winter!

Halloween 2023

In the heart of Arvada, at 7423 Grandview Ave, lies a charming salon owned by Hether and Jim Florman. It was established in 1999. It is known for its exceptional hairstyling skills and a steady stream of beautiful women and men seeking their expertise.

Amidst the bustling salon, there exists an enchanting aura, as if the walls hold secrets and hidden wonders. Some clients have shared stories of a subtle presence that lingers, a gentle touch that guides them to their chairs. It's as if an invisible force is at work, ensuring each haircut and every style is a masterpiece.

The air within the salon occasionally carries a cool breeze, causing a collective shiver to run down the spines of those present. Yet, just as swiftly, warmth envelops the room, bringing comfort and a sense of tranquility. While the source of these temperature changes remains a mystery, many clients and staff believe it to be the presence of benevolent spirits offering their guidance and approval.

As we continue to create our ever-changing space where beauty and creativity flourish, there is a deep appreciation for the unseen energies that grace their salon. It is whispered among the staff that these quiet energy beings are like guardian angels, watching over the salon and its clients, ensuring that every visit is an extraordinary experience.

It is a place where the beauty of the physical world harmonizes with the mystique of the unseen, leaving all who enter with a touch of magic in their hair and a sense of awe in their hearts.

Local Salon Owner, Hether Florman, Shares Passion for Hair with Guatemala Nonprofit

Arvada Salon Owner, and Master Stylist, Hether Florman embarked on a one of a kind journey last month where she traveled to San Antonio Aguas Caliente Guatemala to work with the nonprofit organization Global Stylist Scholarship. During her time in Guatemala, Hether shared her skills as a hairstylist, business owner, and educator with local individuals developing skills to pursue a career as a hairstylist.

The comprehensive program teaches hair cutting and styling skills as well as the nuts and bolts of business ownership. The goal of the program is to empower the men and women of Guatemala to build careers and provide for themselves, their families, and their communities. The program lasts a week, but the relationships built last way beyond the time the volunteers and participants spend together. Hether has been in contact with many of the individuals she taught a month ago regularly. She has had fun keeping up with those she connected with and checking in with them to see what kind of progress they are making towards their goals. Hether, who has dedicated her career to hair, enjoyed inspiring a new subset of people to dedicate their lives to this craft.

Anyone who has talked to Hether about her experience has probably heard her say that it was life changing. In Hether’s own words, her experience was “Inspiring and beautiful. It was truly humbling to see so many people jump to participate in a program that would allow them to create a better life for themselves and their loved ones. I can honestly say it felt amazing to share my skills with others in such a unique way.” Hether hopes her participation in this program will inspire other stylists to give back and participate in programs that allow others to find a passion for hairstyling.
